Kingdom Worship Centre Intl’ sets the stage for the Rush for Peace week.

Posted on 29 May 2011 by A.Cooper

After weeks of planning, the Rush for Peace week event officially started with a Church Service on Sunday, May 29th 2011, hosted by Kingdom Worship Centre International. The service began at 9:30am at the Radisson at Our Lucaya Beach and Golf Resort. In attendance were  Junkanoo and Government Officials, Rev. Arnold Pinder, President of The Grand Bahama Christian Council and Anjourn Armaly, Founder and Chairman of the Rush for Peace Committee. There were also hundreds of members, followers and well wishers for the Rush for Peace week of events.

Kingdom Worship Centre’s Praise and Worship Team and Choir brought the audience to their feet.

Reverend Kermit Saunders, Pastor of Kingdom Worship Centre International gave a soul searching message, “IT’S A LOVE ISSUE”.

In his message, he said  that when a person gets sick and goes to the doctor, before the Doctor can treat the illness, he has to get to the root cause, otherwise, the illness will re-occur. “Before we can resolve the crime in our streets, we have to get to the root cause of the problem, which is the lack of LOVE”.

The first scripture was taken form Genesis chapter 4: 1-8. Pastor Saunsers went on to say that both Cain and Abel brought offerings to the lord.  God respected and accepted Abel’s offering but rejected Cain’s. In the story, Cain eventually killed his brother Abel. “If Cain truly loved his brother, the murder never would have taken place”, says Pastor Saunders. ITS A LOVE ISSUE. “Before we can resolve the issue of crime in our streets, we have to go to the root cause of the problem, which is the lost of love”.

“No one same to have the cure for all the crime in our society; we are spending money on symptoms, but need to go back and find the root cause of the problem. according to Pastor Saunders; the answer is in the bible”  He drew references from, 1st Corinthians Chapter 13 band 1st John 4:20. Both scripture speaks about love.

This service definitely set the stage for a united, peaceful week of events.

The story behind the Rush for Peace

The story behind the Rush for Peace

Posted on 29 May 2011 by bahamianillustrated

Mr. Anjoun Armaly the chairman of the Junkanoo Promotions shared his experience and motives of birthing this exceptional idea. Here’s his story:

As we go about our lives on a daily basis, we hear reports of criminal activities soaring, whether it be from the local news, print media, or word of mouth. Crime today is becoming ever so common in our once peaceful nation. We are being plagued with rogue elements that wreak havoc on our communities. Last year there were a record number of murders committed, mainly because of the lack of conflict resolution. Most of these incidents could have been avoided because our young men and women rushed to violence instead of finding more peaceful ways in which to resolve their problems. That’s why today we are saying, ‘Lets Celebrate Life – Rush for Peace.’

‘Rush for Peace,’ will be a week of events culminating with a junkanoo showcase slated for this upcoming Labor Day Holiday weekend. The object of this event is to not only stimulate the economy of Grand Bahama but also to promote peace, love & unity within our nation and on our island, while also showcasing some of the Bahamas top junkanoo groups. The featured groups will be The Saxons and Valley Boys out of Nassau, and the Swingers and Majestic Crusaders from Freeport. While all of that is good, we know that this can only be accomplished through the power of the Almighty, without God none of this would be possible. So we are beginning the festivities with an awe inspiring church service, and not forgetting the reason for this event, our youths, a youth march and rally is slated for the afternoon.

Purpose- I didn’t quite understand all of it until last week. When this idea of doing something to positively affect the community came about, I spoke to some other young people like myself, and they were excited about the possibilities and far reaching effects it can have on the community and therefore a committee was formed.

After which, it was my task to seek a church to host this event. The choice was easy, being a member of  Kingdom Worship Centre Int’l. I came one and spoke to Pastor. I sat in his office, and gave him my ideas on what I wanted to do. Pastor listened attentively, but was giving me what I thought was a blank stare. When I was finish. Pastor said he had a dream. In that dream he saw a lot of colors. Here I am talking about using Junkanoo as a tool to effect change. Purpose.

Further along, I spoke to Bishop Arnold Pinder, President of the Grand Bahama Christian Counsel. We had several meetings planned collectively with other persons but for one reason or the other, those meetings never materialized. When we did meet it was more private. Bishop Pinder listened, and then said the Christian Counsel was planning an event very similar, the exact day, and the same location. Purpose.

By that time the plans were in full gear and we were streaming along. We had and still have a lot of obstacles, and one day last week I made up my mind to pack it in, call it a lost, throw in the towel. The costs and frustration was just too much on me. Yes I believe and in so doing I committed myself financially to do this community event but I was still troubled.

Last week Tuesday as I got dressed to run some errands I questioned myself and my passion for this event. I walked out of the house with the intention of pulling the plug. I got inside my vehicle and it would not start. I got a floor mat out, went underneath and began banging on the fuel tank. While doing that my phone rang. I answered. It was one of my coworkers; one whom I have much respect for, one of whom I often seek advice. She said “hey Ammy (as she called me), how are you?”

I said “I’m fine Mags what’s up?”

“Good. I just called to encourage you.” She replied.

I got up from under my vehicle and asked her. “What did you just say to me?’

“I just called to encourage you and let you know everything will work out.” She replied. I couldn’t control myself, I just cried on the phone. That confirmed my purpose. This is bigger than me. This will change the lives of people in this community of Grand Bahama.

We must realize that these young people of today will be our future leaders of tomorrow. What kind of Bahamas would we like to see? We should be disciplining our children for wrong or bad behavior, but instead we lavish them with expensive gifts. We should be taking our children to church to learn peace, love and unity. But instead we hope Religious Studies are taught in schools. We should be inquiring about what they are up to or how their day went? But instead we allow them to spend hours on the computer, Facebook or Farmville rather than helping them with homework or life’s lessons.

Stop telling our kids don’t do this and that and start showing them a positive alternative!

As kids, we separate the boys from the girls and doom our young men to a life of frustration and insecurity and not even realize it. We buy our daughters dolls, kitchen sets and clothes. What is that? We teach them how to nurture, they play teach the baby, be mummy, they excel. When they hurt we love them up and tell them everything will be ok. Our Young men? We buy them construction trucks, cars and guns. We tell them stay outside and play with their friends and when they hurt we tell them boys suppose to be tuff. Now they grow up with no direction, frustrated not knowing how to control their emotions, quick to pull a gun or a knife and we throw our hands in the air and cry out ‘my god what are we coming to? We never taught them. They don’t know. Never be to busy to listen to them. To you what they say may seem insignificant, but to them they feel comfort in knowing they can share something with you. Stop preaching to them. Start teaching them.

Our vision is to create a positive environment of change which will impact our future.

thank god for the recession 3

Thank God for the Recession

Posted on 29 May 2011 by bahamianillustrated

Like mama used to say, “if ya can’t hear you’ll feel” and it is safe to believe most Bahamians strongly felt the impact of this global recession. Although the recession pressure cooked the lives of many Bahamians we should still give credit where it is due.

Here are a few lessons learned, thanks to the recession:

Lesson 1: Save More
Living for tomorrow became a necessity.

Lesson 2: Eliminate existing debt & Take less risks

It was hard enough keeping up with debt when things were better. Now it is excruciating and forces most people to want to get rid of them. People are also not willingly running up their credit.

Lesson 3: Make a backup plan (Plan B)
It is good to have a job but it is even better to develop other skills. Some of the best ideas are born during a recession. Bahamian entrepreneurs sprung up by the hundreds.

Lesson 4: Pot Luck, Cook Outs and Car Pooling

Carpooling, Pot Lucking, and CookoutsCarpooling is slowly becoming a trend.
Pot Lucking – Gathering as family, friends, or as a community. Where each participant brings a dish.

Cookouts: More expenses are being paid through this tool. Primarily for health, education, or other purposes.

Lesson 5: Find Ways to Cut Costs

Things aren’t as easy as they used to be. You can save a lot of money by doing things yourself example: Mow the lawn, washing the Car, Bathing the Dogs,  Painting the house etc. By making these minor adjustments, Cooking at least 4-5 days out of the week; you can save  a couple thousand dollars each year by making these adjustments.

Lesson 6: Become more productive

Things aren’t as easy as they used to be. There is no time to kick back. Its time to see what else you can do to maximize your dollars and your time. Find ways to become involved in your community, come up with business ideas or think of ways that you can improve your current business, take on a side job.

Freedom

Posted on 26 May 2011 by kewing

Freedom, for most of us can easily but erroneously be defined as being free from any form of physical restriction, such as shackles, a prison cell, cords, chains, hand cuffs or another human being for that matter. The above understanding can be labeled as a visible form of freedom. However there is a freedom that we cannot physically see, but is by far more reaching than any other type of freedom and that is mental freedom.

The bible says, “Whom the son sets free is free indeed”. The bible is not speaking about a physical freedom here, instead it speaks to freedom from habits, ideologies, and thoughts (strongholds) that have caused us to become enslaved physically and mentally to whatever has us bound or restricted in certain areas of our lives.

The Gospel of Jesus Christ (which is the true power of God) main purpose is to repair, renew and restore our minds (destroying those strongholds). Therefore we can conclude that true freedom is A STATE OF MIND! A state of mind speaks to the condition of one’s mind. Now, that condition is dependent on the word of God or the lack thereof. If God’s word is lacking in your life, then the evidence of that would be depression, confusion etc. Scripture further explains that wherever the spirit of God is there is liberty. Another word for liberty is also freedom. So, God who is his word has provided us freedom in our minds through us meditating on his word. Scripture elaborates even further, when it says that God is not the author of confusion. So clearly he’s not the one causing your confusion but in fact the antidote for your confusion.

Therefore, the Spirit of God, which is also the word of God which in turn is the freedom of God made available to us, is consistently trying through our five senses and our spirits to communicate this freedom to our minds. The reason for this is because our mind is the administrator to our bodies. What is the benefit of this you may ask? Well, so that the individual can decipher the will of God for his life and to free himself from bondages and strongholds that has caused him to behave contrary to the will of God. The flipside to this revelation, is one cannot comprehend the will of God for their life outside of the renewing of their mind which comes only by the word of God (Romans 12:2).

Bottom-line: We are the sum total of our most dominant thoughts, so in order to be free from whatever has us physically or mentally bound it must begin from the mind via the changing or altering of our thoughts by the word of God. “As a man thinks in his heart/mind so he becomes (Proverbs 23:7).

That relationship that is going nowhere is difficult to release because of the way you think, your life seems miserable only because of the way you think. You have difficulty in saving your money, not because you don’t make enough money, but all because of the way you think. Your thinking which has enslaved you is simply because you lack the meditating and application of God’s word to your mind that ultimately changes your life.

INSANITY IS DOING THE SAME THING THE SAME WAY ALL THE TIME AND EXPECTING A DIFFERENT RESULT. CHANGING THE WAY WE THINK WILL AUTOMATICALLY CHANGE OUR PERCEPTION AND PROVIDE DIFFERENT WAYS OF ADDRESSING WHAT PLAGUED US, OR HAS HELD US IN BONDAGE FOR SO LONG!

Father, I break in the name of your son Jesus Christ the spirit of unbelief, your word declares that because of our unbelief the god of this world has blinded our minds 2corinthians 4:4. I further bind the prince of the power of the air who is presently working in the children of disobedience Ephesians 2:2. I speak freedom to the minds of my readers in the matchless name of Jesus Christ. Amen!

Top five cancer-causing foods, avoid at all cost:

Posted on 25 May 2011 by bahamianillustrated

The top five cancer-causing foods are:

1. Hot dogs
Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can’t live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate .

2. Processed meats and bacon
Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, bacon, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.

3. Doughnuts
Doughnuts are cancer causing double trouble. First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer.

4. French fries
Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries, said Adams .

5. Chips, crackers, and cookies
All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

BRAIN DAMAGING HABITS

1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.
2. Overeating
It causes hardening of the brain arteries, leading to a decrease in mental power.

3. Smoking
It causes multiple brain shrinkage and may lead to Alzheimer disease.

4. High Sugar Consumption
Too much sugar will interrupt the absorption of proteins and nutrients causing malnutrition and may interfere with brain development.

5. Air Pollution
The brain is the largest oxygen consumer in our body. Inhaling polluted air decreases the supply of oxygen to the brain, bringing about a decrease in brain efficiency.

6. Sleep Deprivation
Sleep allows our brain to rest. Long term deprivation from sleep will accelerate the death of brain cells.
7. Head covered while sleeping
Sleeping with the head covered increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decrease concentration of oxygen that may lead to brain damaging effects.

8. Working your brain during illness
Working hard or studying with sickness may lead to a decrease in effectiveness of the brain as well as damage the brain.

9. Lacking in stimulating thoughts
Thinking is the best way to train our brain, lacking in brain stimulation thoughts may cause brain shrinkage.

10. Talking Rarely
Intellectual conversations will promote the efficiency of the brain.

Reasons for sleeping and waking up early.

Evening at 9 – 11pm : is the time for eliminating unnecessary/ toxic chemicals (detoxification) from the antibody system (lymph nodes).. This time duration should be spent by relaxing or listening to music. If during this time a housewife is still in an unrelaxed state such as washing the dishes or monitoring children doing their homework, this will have a negative impact on health

Evening at 11pm – 1am: is the detoxification process in the liver, and ideally should be done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 1 – 3am: detoxification process in the gall, also ideally done in a deep sleep state.

Early morning 3 – 5am: detoxification in the lungs. Therefore there will sometimes be a severe cough for cough sufferers during this time. Since the detoxification process had reached the respiratory tract, there is no need to take cough medicine so as not to interfere with toxin removal process.

Morning 5 – 7am: detoxification in the colon, you should empty your bowel.

Morning 7 – 9am: absorption of nutrients in the small intestine, you should be having breakfast at this time.
Breakfast should be earlier, before 6:30am, for those who are sick.

Breakfast before 7:30am is very beneficial to those wanting to stay fit. Those who always skip breakfast, they should change their habits, and it is still better to eat breakfast late until 9 – 10am rather than no meal at all.

Sleeping so late and waking up too late will disrupt the process of removing unnecessary chemicals. Aside from that, midnight to 4:00 am is the time when the bone marrow produces blood. Therefore, have a good sleep and don’t sleep late.

The main causes of liver damage are:

1. Sleeping too late and waking up too late are main cause.
2.. Not urinating in the morning.
3. Too much eating.
4. Skipping breakfast.
5. Consuming too much medication.
6. Consuming too much preservatives, additives, food coloring, and artificial sweetener.
7. Consuming unhealthy cooking oil. As much as possible reduce cooking oil use when frying, which includes even the best cooking oils like olive oil Do not consume fried foods when you are tired, except if the body is very fit.
8. Consuming raw (overly done) foods also add to the burden of liver.. Veggies should be eaten raw or cooked 3-5 parts. Fried veggies should be finished in one sitting, do not store.

We should prevent this without necessarily spending more. We just have to adopt a good daily lifestyle and eating habits. Maintaining good eating habits and time conditions are very important for our bodies to absorb and get rid of unnecessary chemicals according to ‘schedule.’

The importance of acknowledging each customer

Posted on 25 May 2011 by A.Cooper

As service providers, we take for granted the importance of customers that walk through our doors daily. For the next 6 months; we will give you tips on service from the customers perspective.

As a customer, it is important to be acknowledged. Consider 10 feet around and about you, as your service stage. At 10 feet, acknowledge your customers and at 5 feet greet them. (This will be known as 10 and 5 rule of service).

How can we acknowledge them when we are serving other customers? Give them eye contact, smile, nod, say, “I’ll be with you shortly” etc.

How should we greet our customers? Good afternoon, Good morning, How can I help? How can I be of assistance? NEVER USE ONE WORD when addressing customers such as: next, no, yes etc. While addressing your customers be warm and personable. Customers like to feel valued and appreciated. So “roll out the red carpet for them.” They deserve it after all, they really did not have to shop at your establishment.
