Meeting of Minds Fashion, Art & Music Expo is an exciting event that is thoughtfully in aid of the Grand Bahama Humane Society. Its aim is to help to explore and further enlighten the people of Grand Bahama about the amazing art, fashion, photography, and musical talent that we have available to the public.
Fantastic features of the evening will be Principal Fashion designer of The Saint George Fashion House Mr. Kazz Forbes, Ms. Basheva Eve of Le Maison De Besh, John Heath Jewelers, Ms. Lyndah Wells of Lyndah Wells Photography, and Mark Winder of Mango Tree Media, and many more.
The event will be held at Pelican Bay in The Canal House Saturday February 11th, 2012 at 7pm through to 10:30pm, tickets are $40.00 and are available at Bristol Wines, The Art of Giving, Gizmos & Gadgets, and the Grand Bahama Humane Society
Proceeds will be donated to The Grand Bahama Humane Society because it is very much needed and holds a special place for the two creators of the event, and as a community we need to come together to help the HSGB more!
Tip Burrows quoted, ” The HSGB is pleased to once again be working with Ashley Baker & Sean Johnson, were very grateful for the concern given by these young people, for our animals and appreciate all the support from the public as it is necessary in order for the HSGB to operate. We look forward to this event as it should be a great one.”

The Biggest Hair Battle in the history of the Bahamas is so close we can feel it! The word has been buzzing around local salons, barbershops, and studios for the last few weeks. Supporters are nearly dying from anticipation of this exciting event! What is all of the commotion about? Who is the best at what they do? Is it you? Or is it your favorite beauty professional? Watch them compete up close and personal!
Don’t you think it is about time all of these hard workers from the four “trades” came together and be seen doing what they love. The Bahamian Hair Battle is a peculiar event specifically made for barbers, hairstylists, makeup artists, and salon owners to demonstrate their creative skills in the art of hair cutting, hair styling, makeup and overall fashion concepts in various categories.
Winners will receive Trophies, Cash prizes ($10,000 to be given away!), and surprises for “four electrifying battles:” the best hair, hair cuts, makeup, and nails! This event is hosted by the Bahamian Cosmetologists Barbers and Association ( B.C.B.A and Bijoux Hair). The president of this association, Dr. Zelrona Mackey believes this will be a rewarding experience for all involved.
As for persons who are interested in becoming a part of this grand “show down” there is still a little time left to sign up. Tickets can be bought for $35.00 at Signature Styles on Marathon Road. This event is scheduled to be held on Sunday July 3rd, 2011 at the Rainforest Theater at 5pm.

In hopes of refreshing Grand Bahamians with the art of literature and all its components, Grand Bahamian writers have come together to form The 2011 Poets & Writers Expose; a literary exhibition featuring the islands top authors and poets joining forces to spread the awareness of literacy.
Slated this Friday, March 25th at the Cultural Theatre which, is situated at the Freeport Harbour, the expose will showcase both veteran and amateur local poets and writers as they perform original pieces of work. The show will explore the art form of poetry, while also magnifying the dynamics of ‘Spoken Word.’
“There is so much joy in Spoken Word, Poetry and self – expression itself. This is just one avenue to glorify it,” explains Poets & Writers Expose Coordinator, Tamara Delaney. Delaney, a writer and poet, says that the expose is a way to circuit all variations of writing to the public while putting literacy back into the forefront, ” We know that technology is now driving the wheel of the future while literacy has taken the back seat and this is just one of the small ways we’re trying to change that factor,” she explains, “Grand Bahama has to be reminded that there is art and beauty in words too and this expose is the perfect liaison.”
With an all star line up of award-wining authors that includes Gea Pierre, Domek Rolle, Keva Wilchcombe, Yasmin Rigby-Popescu and The Poet’s Ink, Delaney says that the event is a reminder of the islands eminent talent. “This event features distinguished authors, poets and writers who are all among us,” she says, “This is a way to present our very own wealth of talent and to put Grand Bahama on the map by showing that we too carry a legion of brilliant writers.”
The expose also extends itself to amateur talent including open mic and an audio’s corner. The three-hour long expose is expected to cater to all forms of writing styles and poetry and hopes to become an annual endeavor. “This expose is not only meant to showcase literature but also to celebrate it,” says Delaney, “It is the essence of how we expressive ourselves and how we to relate to others and I think that makes it so important.”

It’s your time to shine! Bahamian artist from all backgrounds are now able to show off their talents at an amazing weekly event called “Open Mic.” This event is hosted by Skye, from Skyebox Entertainment and is sponsored by the Lioness Music Group.

There were freestyle performances by the following talented local artists such as Oddomatik, Tall B, BJ, Miz Bezzy, and Lil Freshy Prince of da Ghetto. Miss J sang her heart out during her smooth solo. The heat was on when Breez took the floor along with half of the roof with rap!
Last week was “off da chains” too! There were performances by: Jah Troy – Just can’t fail; Quilla Fang, Kegee Kid and Brick Taylor – Get wit me; Black Poet (Poetry); Tall B and more! Another hit performed was “Black and Yellow” by Jah troy, Skyy and Brezzy.
We asked Skye what inspired her to put on such an event especially on a weekly basis? Skye replied: “I have a passion for young people going in a positive direction and would like to offer them a place they can express themselves.”
