Juno’s Photography Exposed

Juno's Photography - Bahamas

Lanni the photographer for Juno’s Photography is known for her unconventional approach to capturing an image. An image she’d take would resemble something swung in the sixties. Jalan Monique Harris commonly known as Juno/Lanni was born on August 29, 1991. She was inspired to pursue photography by a dear friend by the name of Johnny Zhang who is located in Florida. “I was his muse sometimes” she recalled.

juno-s-photography-14

We asked Juno if she received any support from love ones after informing them of her decision of pursuing the arts and her answer was a bit unusual. Apparently she was “into art since primary school.” However, to fully win the approval of her father she had to also maintain a second language.
Her chosen style of photography has an overall vintage taste. She just prefers to always “incorporate art in whatever” she shoots. Jalan is extremely passionate about her chosen career path, her mind goes crazy when she sees a cool location!”

What sets this young photographer apart is  the fact that she is not “really flashy, and believes some people are just way too concerned about appearing glamorous of front page modelesque”

We allowed Jalan to sum up her unconventional approach to photography or her style. She replied “people have told me they like my style, I wish I could tell you what that is. It’s like what you see is what’s actually there aside from the occasional airbrushing, I just bring out the beauty that was already there instead of creating it.”

Despite being new to the Grand Bahama market, Juno’s Photography managed to attain a number of well known clients such as Tomacina Culmer, Mark Winder, and former beauty pageant queens such as Garelle Hudson.

GB Photographers Exposed!

Posted on 27 January 2012 by bahamianillustrated

This month we’ve had the chance to interview a few well known and not so well know photographers. They all had one thing in common besides their passion for flashing – their location they primarily operate from. It was a pleasure to interview persons like Frankie Ladeyo (Blue Cherry Studios), Lanni Harris (Juno Photography), Mark Winder (Mango Tree Media), Melissa Walkins (Captured Creations), Erykah Monique (Erykah Monique Photography), Leshan Ferguson, and more! One thing we found peculiar is that this group of professionals really believe in networking. Everyone was willing to suggest us to other professionals within their field. Check back for more info. on GB photographers all this month!

Blue Cherry Studios Exposed!

Posted on 28 February 2011 by bahamianillustrated

frankie-calvin

Blue Cherry Studios has perhaps the most versatile photographer. Frankie is one photographer we just could not seem to place a finger on. Or put inside of a box. He’s a self proclaimed cluster phobic and his footage shows it!

Calvin Franklyn Williams III  commonly known as Frankie Ladeyo was born on Nov. 4th 1986. Calvin said he knows his name “sounds like royalty, but trust me there’s nothing spectacular about it.” We too were confused about the many names so we asked how did we get from Calvin to Frankie? “I go by Frankie Ladeyo because it’s easier to distinguish between my dad and I. It’s because my dad and I do the same type of work (we work with computers).”

Here comes the interesting part… the name Frankie Ladeyo actually came from an old Michael Jackson film (Moonwalker). “There was an evil guy in it ..his name was Frankie LiDeo, but yeah I spelt my name differently because ..well ..I wanted to and gave it a different meaning hahaha people always asked what it meant. The word Ladeyo is like one of those one word sayings like amen means let it be ladeyo says the name shall be known to all and forgotten by none so essentially Frankie is the name that shall be known to all and … I was young ..but it just stuck” Frankie explained.

Who inspired you to pursue photography? “My 2 older sisters kinda inspired me. One of them did Photoshop and photo restoration in a photo studio…I thought it was cool what she can do with a computer and a digital image.. and my other sister did modeling, acting and stuff….and I remember seeing her contact sheets and thought it was cool that she got to play dress up and have such cool pics taken. I don’t know if that makes sense to you but to me..it inspired me to pick up a camera …and create my own images that I can practice using Photoshop with .”

Frankie’s family was well supportive of his chosen career path. “My mom thinks its cool, and encourages me to go out and shoot ….my dad feels the same way I’m sure though he can be more critical and may not always agree with some creative concepts i come up with. I guess they’re just old fashioned. but generally they have no problem with it and try to encourage me the best they can.”

As for Frankie’s style it pretty much varies. “There are variables like.. my mood…clients mood…location….even music genre..generally though when i go out and shoot …I strive to do ‘different’ things….when ever I dream up a concept …depending on what it is ..I try to find the right talent to pull it off. Some of my concepts are too extreme and would probably required stunt talent. I’ve only been able to pull off a few of my dream concepts but sadly I lost it all in a hard drive failure (lesson learnt). But yeah all in all you know how people say “what you see is what you get” When I’m shooting its more like “what you see is what you CAN get…but lets just….<insert magic here>… and get a little bit more impact,” it doesn’t necessarily have to be extreme either it could be something subtle such as simple vintage look done in post or changing the perspective all together I guess simply put..my style varies..I like to do different things.

We found it hard to stomach the fact that Frankie actually started out in nature photography.

“I wasn’t always shooting people. After studying psychology for years it kinda just made me wanna stick with shooting a subject that didn’t have the ability to think they don’t look good – nature. It simply knows its beautiful and doesn’t need anyone to tell it and best of all…its all natural!
